Shirley Joan Bowler

Bondsville-Shirley J. (Allen) Bowler, 93, passed away at home with the love of her family surrounding her. She was born August 8, 1928 in Springfield, daughter of S. John and Mary Anne (Sullivan) Allen. As an active communicant of the former St. Bartholomew's Church in Bondsville, Shirley was part of their parish council and Daughter's of Isabella. She also participated in the Ladies' Auxiliary at Wing Memorial Hospital. In her leisure, Shirley took much enjoyment in shopping and her weekly dinners out to eat with her family. However, her greatest passion was the Boston Red Sox. She counted the days until the start of the season and "coached them from her couch". She admired other New England teams such as the Patriots and Bruins but the Red Sox were her heart and soul. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Michael P. Bowler, and daughter, Ellen T. Levesque. She will be dearly missed by her children, Mary Austin of Palmer, Catherine Riel and husband Marc of Brimfield, Michael Bowler of Bondsville, Margaret Bowler of Rimrock, AZ, Sheila Andre and partner Gary Szczepanek of Bondsville, Thomas Bowler of Bondsville and dear beloved cat, LB. Shirley also leaves 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 2 on the way. A very special thank you to the care from hospice, most especially Donna, Laurie, Lisa and Kevin. Visitation will be Wednesday January 12 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Church with burial in the parish cemetery. Friends and family may gather between 9-9:15 a.m. at the funeral home. For those wishing, donations may be made in her memory to Baystate Home Health & Hospice, 30 Capital Dr., W.Springfield, MA 01089.
