Obituary of Walter & Madeline Staback

"Walter Staback, 83, died Thursday at Wing Memorial Hospital and his wife, Madeline A. (Reidy) Staback, 82, died Sunday at home. They were married September 1, 1947 and have lived on Park Street for all of their married life. Walter was born in Palmer, May 3, 1922, and was the son of the late Jacob and Tekla (Wsolek) Staback. Madeline was born in Gilbertville, September 29, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Michael and Emma (Lacombe) Riedy. Walter was lifelong resident, and graduate of Palmer High School. He was plant supervisor for the former New England Metal Culvert (now Contech) for 44 years before retiring. Madeline grew up in Gilbertville and was a graduate of its high school. She relocated to Palmer after her marriage and worked for 18 years at Sanderson McLeod. Mr. & Mrs. Staback were communicants of St. Thomas Church, and Mrs. Staback was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. Walter served with the Navy Veteran of WWII and was a member of the American Legion Post 130 and Swift River Sportsmen’s Club. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed hunting. They had also raised their own livestock for 28 years until 2003. Besides their parents, they were predeceased by their son Kenneth who died April 25, 2005. They are survived by their daughter Kathy Jones and her husband Ron of Thorndike, two grandsons Jesse Dane of Palmer and Billy Rowe III of Brimfield, and step grandson Jeffrey Jones of New Braintree, along with their great granddaughter Libby. They also leave their daughter in law Vicki (Folger) Staback of Palmer, along with Vicki’s daughter Mandi Cadoret and husband Shaun and their precious Alexis of Brimfield. Mr. Staback leaves two sisters Jenny Young of Monson and Mary Kwasniak of Brimfield, and a brother Fred Staback of Monson, as well as many nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his five siblings, and Madeline was predeceased by her six siblings. A funeral will be Friday, May 20 at 8:00 a.m. from the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home followed by a liturgy of Christian burial at 9:00 in St. Thomas Church. Burial with military honors will take place at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at 11:00 a.m. Calling hours are Thursday from 4:00 –7:00 p.m. During this time a video tribute will be shown.
