Obituary of Virginia Anne Stevens Caldwell

"Cummington-Virginia Anne Stevens Caldwell passed quietly on July 2, 2012. She is pre-deceased by her husband Thomas Caldwell and son Paul A. Caldwell. She leaves behind her daughters, Anne Emerson of Savannah, GA and Melissa Caldwell of Whately, MA, her brother John Stevens of Cummington and many greatly loved nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born August 1st, 1924 on Main Street in Cummington she spent most of her life there. Her Associates Degree in nutrition took her to Nissan College in ME and from there she went into the Air force stationed in Arizona. She met Tom there and they married while in the service. From there they started their lives together in Washington DC near her sister Elizabeth, where daughter Anne was born. From there they moved to the little red house on Main Street in Cummington; one of several homes she shared with Tom during her life there. Ginn was very involved in her hometown; as secretary to the Town Selectman for many years, and Treasurer of the Council on Aging where she also volunteered. She taught exercise classes for elders and was a member of the local "Red Hat Society" as well as the nearly century old group of local women called "Us Girls". She sang in the choir of the Village Congregational Church, of which she was a lifetime member and also the Hilltown Choral Society. She also volunteered at Berkshire Trail Elementary School where she read to children and helped in the classrooms. She was an avid gardener and created places of peace and beauty wherever she lived. No bird went unfed and no flower went undeadheaded! Her favorite respites included her gardens, walks on the shore, quiet nights sitting under the stars and pursuing her endless tan under the sun. A memorial service will be held at the Cummington Church on August 4th at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Cummington Church c/o Pat Keith, Main St., Cummington, MA 01026. "
