Obituary of David Richard Opielowski

"Palmer-David R. Opielowski, 60, of River St. in Thornkdike died Saturday at Wing Memorial Hospital. Born in Palmer, he was a lifelong resident. He served with the Air Force form 1963-1969 and was in Vietnam from 1965-1966. He received the Air Force Commendation Medal for Service Above and Beyond. He worked for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service at Westover from 1967-1975 and was a member of the VFW Post 1813 and American Legion Post 130 both in Palmer. He worked at the Palmer Post Office for 24 years, retiring in January of 2001. David loved his yard, his home and his dog, Max, and avidly researched and appreciated all types of aircraft. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Helen Opielowski, to whom he has been married for 32 years, his devoeted son, Michael D. and future daughter-in-law, Heather Colby both of Thorndike. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in his memory to the MSPCA, Rawley Memorial Animal Hospital, 171 Union St. Springfield, MA 01105. "
