Obituary of Mary Gertrude Gauthier

Belchertown - Mary Gertrude (Reece) Gauthier, 91, of Belchertown, was called home to the Lord on February 7th, 2020.  She was born in Worcester, MA to the late John Stanley and Julia (Clark) Reece.  She graduated from the High School of Commerce in Worcester in 1946. After growing up in Worcester, she lived in Petersham and Barre, MA before moving to Belchertown.  Mary's beloved late husband, Alfred E. Gauthier, passed away in 1995. They were married for 46 years. A devout Christian, Mary attended Christ Community Church in Belchertown. 

Mary worked for most of her life alongside Al, and a cast of characters, at Gauthier Machinery Co., specializing in tractor and farm equipment sales in Barre.  Mary was an accomplished musician who played the piano and accordion, entertaining her friends and family throughout her life, many times with Al, who played the trombone. Mary's home was a welcoming haven for all friends and family always offering a meal and a place to stay.  She loved animals and enjoyed caring for her pets, especially cats.   

​Mary will be deeply missed by her children, Larry Gauthier and his wife Janie of Barre, Lynn Foster and her husband Bob of Auburn, Alan Gauthier and his significant other Heather Bernard of Barre, and Janis Gush and her husband Chris of Belchertown; five grandchildren, Becky, Jody, Sara, Eli, and Glenn; great grandchildren, James and Frank; sister-in-law, Alma Hemstreet, and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was predeceased by sisters Jane Brodeur and Winnie Staples, and brother James Reece.​

​Calling hours will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 14th at Christ Community Church, 1255 Federal St., Belchertown with a service immediately following.  Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary's name to the Christ Community Church Building Fund.  For more information, or to sign an online guestbook, please visit www.beersandstory.com.  ​
