Rachel Collard was a wonderful friend and helper to my family for years.
My parents socialized with her and Ken for many years. We all sang in the church choir together as well. She was among the first to come and console us at the time she of my Dad’s passing.
Wishing her a joyous journey in the next world!

Dear Barb, Jack, Jim, family, friends, and all who knew and loved Rachel, our most sincere condolences for your loss. I should also include the town of Belchertown on it's loss of one of the last pillars of the town - Rachel truly was one of the last of the old guard - the people that everyone in town knew and respected for most if not all their lives. She will be sadly missed by all of us who knew, respected and loved her. When Rachel's name comes to mind, I picture her in her crisp, white nurses' uniform working as Dr. Ken's receptionist and nurse in the home office. I also see her with Leita's mom and Charlotte Kitchen - all trying to do what they could to help people and make Belchertown the kind of place that made us all proud to be from and belong to. Know you all that Rachel has gone on to reap her reward for her kindness and just being the good person that she was. Rest easy, Rachel and know that you were a tribute and a joy to your Maker ! "Auntie Rae" was my second mother, my mother's best friend at Newton-Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. she introduced my parents to each other and they were lifelong friends. Her daughter, Barb, and I were born when the mothers were 27 and we became classmates. Hence began a life of shared memories. We children were six that bounced between two households regularly, treated as family members. When I slept at Auntie Rae's I knew I must finish my milk (yuck!) and have a One-A-Day vitamin (double yuck!). the families shared much, including church, organizations, neighborhood, clothing, and adventures, both in Belchertown and elsewhere. she traveled to see me as I moved aftr marriage, stayed in close touch for the many years, and upon my return to Belchertown, she and I walked regularly at Quabbin to discuss and work out many problems. We helped each other through life crises many times. She often would say as we walked, "The world is crazy but for me and thee, and sometimes I wonder bout thee!" Overall, Rachel Fuller Collard was a very proper New England girl at heart, admired by many as the wife of the town's only doctor for most of their lives. He was her classmate, Belchertown High School, Class of '38. She was the last surviving member of that class, the last of her nursing class of '42, and the last of the group of six friends that socialized for their whole marriage, Sherm and Ruth Gould, Ruth and Ray Johnston, and Ken and Rachel Collard.Know they are all together again laughing and having grand times! May they all enjoy the well-earned peace! she was also loved by my husband and son alike! she was "Auntie Rae" to all.
