Gregory Dorman

Obituary of Gregory S. Dorman

Belchertown-Gregory S. Dorman, 65, was called by our Lord on Sunday, May 17, 2020.  Born July 17, 1954, he was the son of Robert and Vivian (DiBona) Dorman of Montpelier, Vermont

Greg moved to Belchertown, Massachusetts in his childhood and attended Belchertown Elementary School and graduated from Belchertown High School in 1972.  Greg loved sports and served as the manager of the Belchertown Orioles Baseball team as well as scorekeeper for the Belchertown Orioles Basketball team.  After high school graduation Greg served in the US Navy for one year from 1972 to 1973.

Greg was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Belchertown, Massachusetts.  He loved being a Roman Catholic and loved receiving the Blessed Eucharist each week at mass.  He was a member of the choir at St. Francis of Assisi and occasionally served as Cantor by leading the congregation in song and praise.  Greg was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 10698.  One of Greg’s greatest and most important accomplishments was being professed into the Secular Franciscan Order.  Greg served as Secretary and Treasurer for the OFS and was disciplined in leading a life based on the teachings of St. Francis of Assisi.  Up until his passing he was a 15 year member of the Fraternity.  Greg also assisted as an assistant faith leader and catechist in the St. Francis of Assisi Generations of Faith Program and RCIA program.

Greg’s knowledge of scripture was extensive.  In fact he wrote many Volumes of Meditations interpreting scripture.  He was inspired by the Gospels, the Psalms and much of the New Testament.  Although his writings are unpublished they are a resource for adorers in the St. Francis of Assisi Chapel in Belchertown, MA.

Greg loved his small town of Belchertown.  He could often be seen walking along Main Street in Belchertown, going to and from his home to McDonald’s and CVS.  He was an extremely humble man of little words.  He was always kind, considerate and possessed a gentle loving soul.  If you were in the presence of Greg, you were truly blessed by his good nature and soft humor.  He was a passionate reader and a wealth of knowledge when it came to sports.  Greg’s ability to recall statistics, dates, and facts was astounding; he could remember intricate and minute details on sports teams and players.

Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian Mary (DiBona) Dorman of Montpelier, VT and his father, Robert Dorman of Vermont.  He is also preceded in death by his aunt Anita DiBona-Foster of Gainesville, FL.  He is survived by his half brothers, Deane Dorman of Newbury Park, CA and James Dorman of Thailand, his cousins JoAn Storey and Michael A Quaranta both of Montpelier, VT, cousin Craig Foster of Gainesville, FL, his nephew, Jeff Dorman and his family of Wilmington, Delaware.

Greg was well-loved by his faith family at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Belchertown who supported and assisted him throughout the years.

In consideration for everyone’s health and wellbeing along with the current gathering restrictions, services will be privately held at Beers & Story Funeral Home in Belchertown, MA.  Greg will receive a final veteran salute by the former Belchertown Veteran’s Agent at this service.  Greg will be buried at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Agawam, MA where he will receive a private military honors burial.
