Obituary of Richard W. Christen, Sr.

Richard W. Christen Sr., 88, of Belchertown, MA passed away June 3, 2020.  He was born on October 18, 1931 in NY, NY. He was raised in Walpole, MA and moved to Belchertown, where he resided for 43 years. He proudly served his country during the Korea War in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for over 40 years in the main office in Springfield for A&P Grocers until he retired. He had a love of trains, gardening and smoking cigars, which he would decorate the empty cigar boxes and donate to local preschools for children to use for pencil boxes. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Julianna (Blake) Christen; and his daughter, Heidi Christen, both of Belchertown. He was also survived by a brother, Everett Littlefield of CA, sister-in-law Mary and her husband Bob Trayers of Canton, MA; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Josephine and a son Richard W. Christen Jr. A graveside service with miltary honors will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at South Cemetery in Belchertown. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Belchertown Senior Center, 60 State St., Belchertown, MA 01007.  For more information, please visit ww.beersandstory.com.
