Obituary of Richard J DeMaio

Palmer-Richard J. DeMaio, 91, passed away June 8, 2020 at his home with the love of his family surrounding him.  Born May 20, 1929 in Springfield, he was the son of Santino and Hazel (Denning) DeMaio.  During the Korean War he proudly served his country in the US Navy and was honorably discharged with the rank of EM3.  Dickie has been a lifelong resident of Palmer and worked for over 30 years at Diamond National as a supervisor.  He was an active member of the American Legion Post 130 in Palmer.  During his youth, he loved to play baseball, and continued this sport into his 50s.  In his leisure, he also took much enjoyment in hunting, golfing and fishing.  Dickie will be dearly missed by his wife of 42 years, Diane (Maynard) DeMaio, along with children, Lisa Connolly and Kevin of CA, Dwayne DeMaio of CA, Tracy DeMaio and Don Chartier of W.Springfield, Christina DeMaio and Devin Calichman of Worcester.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, James Connolly, DJ DeMaio, Kaleb Hogan, Declan Calichman and great grandson Caleb DeMaio as well as his brother, Daivd DeMaio and Christine of Palmer along with sister-in-law, Sylvia DeMaio of W. Springfield.  Dickie was predeceased by his children, Cheryl and Kevin DeMaio along with his siblings, Jeanne McKee and William DeMaio.  Visitation will be Monday, June 15th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home.  For everyone's health and safety along with the current regulations, masks must be worn along with social distancing of six feet.  Funeral home staff will monitor and assist with the occupancy of the funeral home in accordance with Phase II regulations.  A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Church with military honors to conclude.  Burial will be at the MA Veterans' Memorial Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to regroup4vets.com.
