Obituary of Marilyn "Mia" DeWitt
Marilyn “Mia” DeWitt, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, September 4, 2020 at the age of 58. Marilyn was born February 13, 1962 and resided in Belchertown State School until its closing. She attended junior high school in Northampton from 1977-1981. She worked at Microtex for 27 years until her retirement in 2011 and then attended Sunshine Village in Palmer. Marilyn resided in Belchertown with the Bertch family for many years then moved to a residential program in South Hadley in 2017. She loved the color yellow, a good cup of coffee, ice cream, sitting outside in the sunshine and being at the water. Marilyn enjoyed being around others and was quick to offer a hug. Mia touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed by her guardian and friend, Mary Ellen Pope of Belchertown; Cheryl, Gregory, Valerie, Nikolas and Samuel Bertch of Belchertown with whom she lived for many years; her housemates and staff at WMTC, especially Rachel Maldonado and Chantel Nelson who took such good care of her over the past three years; and her friends and staff from Sunshine Village in Palmer. Calling hours are Friday, September 18, 2020 from 9:30-10:30, with a funeral home service beginning at 10:30 at the Beers & Story Funeral Home, 10 Maple St, Belchertown, followed by burial in South Cemetery.
