Obituary of Earl M. Gilbert

Monson – Earl M. Gilbert, 94, passed away October 1, 2020 peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at home.  He was born May 16, 1926 in Springfield, the son of Melvin and Esther (Pease) Gilbert.  Earl and his parents were previously relocated from the Town of Greenwich MA as a result of the Quabbin Reservoir being developed.   Earl proudly served his country during WWII in the US Army and was a member of the First Church of Monson.  As a life long resident of Monson, Earl worked for over 35 years as a heavy equipment operator with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 98 and retired in 1991.  Earl was a very caring and devoted family man, he and his wife instilled family values to his children and grandchildren.  He was always available to lend a helping hand with kindness and wittiness and was loved by all who knew him. In 2012, Earl was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn (Bardsley) and in 2000, by his daughter, Linda M. Stuart of California.  Earl is survived by his children, Debra L. Gilbert of Monson, Wayne E. Gilbert and his wife Terry of South Hadley, Mark T. Gilbert of Wales and Eric M. Gilbert and his fiancé Wendy Sears of Palmer.  He also leaves seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.  Earl’s services will be private.  Beers & Story Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Monson Ambulance Service.
