Obituary of James K. Stathis
South Hadley—James K. Stathis, 86, passed away at home on Sunday, January 17. Son of the late James and Statia (Patruski) Stathis, he was born in Springfield on November 9, 1934. After graduating from Tech in Springfield, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War, later receiving the honor of “Veteran of the Year” in 2007 for the Town of South Hadley. After his dedicated service, James went on to work in office logistics for many years at the United States Postal Service before retiring in 1994. During his retirement years, James was an avid gardener, enjoying his bonsai trees as well as his membership to the Orchid Society. He also enjoyed painting and photography. Above all, James enjoyed spending time with family and traveling the world with his wife.
James will be missed by all who knew him, including his loving wife, Marie (Augusta) Stathis; his children, Jean Stathis of Ct, Steven Stathis of Ct, and Craig Stathis of Southwick; his step-daughters, Kathleen Lane of East Longmeadow, Cynthia Andrews (Mark) of Ct, and Carolyn Bakos of Springfield; his grandchildren Andrea and Matthew Lane, Zachary, Cody, Sam and Seth Allen, Taylor and Nico Stathis, and Tia Filip; as well as many extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Shirley Fill. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 4-7pm at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to meet directly in St. Theresa’s of Lisieux in South Hadley for a Liturgy of Christian Burial beginning at 9:30am the following morning. Burial will be private.
