Obituary of John A. Veighey

West Springfield-John A. Veighey, 74, a beloved brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away serenely, surrounded by his loving family at his daughter’s home in Thorndike on March 31st, 2021.  He was born to the late George Veighey and Mary (Grimes) Campbell in Springfield, MA on December 24th, 1946.

John was a man that explored many things in life. He was a reservist with the Navy for 6 years, with 2 years of active duty as a communication technician 1st class, while stationed in San Vito, Italy. John continued his career path as a supervisor at Solutia-Monsanto. John was a huge Patriots fan and a proud season ticket holder. In addition to being a devoted father, he shared many hobbies, such as playing darts, riding motorcycles, and sharing his collection of movies and tv shows with his friends and family. John was also known to enjoy the great outdoors by fishing, camping, and spending time at Quabbin Reservoir.

John will be deeply missed by his two daughters, Patty Veighey and her partner John Melnick of Thorndike, and Cyndi Veighey of Westfield. He is also survived by his two grandchildren Jesse and Brian, and a great-grandchild Madelyn. John is also leaving behind his two brothers, George Veighey of Walla Walla, WA, and Richard Veighey of Feeding Hills. He was predeceased by his sister Ann "Lucky" Kinsley.

A memorial luncheon is being held at Tony & Penny’s on 18 Canterbury St., Ludlow, MA at 1:30 pm on April 25th, 2021. For those who wish to make a donation, please do so in John’s honor to the MSPCA (https://www.mspca.org/donate-now/).
