Obituary of Eunice E. Mittler

South Hadley- Eunice E. (Moos) Mittler, 92, passed away April 10, 2021. She was born on October 24, 1928 in Holyoke to the late Fred and Ethel (McElwain) Moos. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Mittler. Eunice is survived by her three sons, Carl, David and wife Cindi, Steven and wife Patricia; her five grandchildren, Todd and wife Jean, Troy and wife Kristin, Cara, Molly, Samantha and husband Michael; and her 4 great grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Mylie, and Natalie; as well as numerous friends and family. 

Eunice attended South Hadley High School, and while still in high school, also worked at the Victory Theatre in Holyoke where she met her future husband, Charles. After completing high school, Eunice went on to work in the office at Holyoke Valve and Hydrant while Charles began his career at Sears Roebuck in downtown Holyoke. Eunice and Charles Married in 1950 at United Methodist Church in South Hadley. A year later, Charles was drafted into the Army and spent the following two years in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Two years later, in June of 1953, Carl was born and the new family returned to Massachusetts, residing in Fairview. Charles resumed his career at Sears Roebuck. In August of 1956, Eunice and Charles welcomed their second son, David, into the world. In April of 1961, their son Steven was born and the family relocated to a larger home in South Hadley.

In 1969, Eunice decided it was time to re-enter the workforce and she went to work for Steigers in downtown Holyoke until their closure in 1994. Her husband, Charles, passed away in November of 1981 after he and Eunice proudly raised their three sons. When Eunice retired from Steigers, she volunteered her time at the South Hadley Senior Center. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She also treasured the memories made over the many years in the South Hadley Women's Club. Eunice will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all that had the pleasure of knowing her. 

Visitation will be held April 16th from 10am-12pm, with words of reflection to be shared at 12pm at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow at Village Cemetery of South Hadley Falls.
