Estelle Sourdiffe

Obituary of Estelle T. Sourdiffe

Holyoke- Estelle T. Sourdiffe, 89, passed away July 5, 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer's, with her family by her side. She was born on October 3, 1931 in Alberta, Canada to the late Robert and Dorothy (Sicotte) Hamlin. Estelle's family moved to Holyoke where she was raised and attended Precious Blood High School. While attending Precious Blood, she and her sisters, Corinne and Adele, would perform and sing to an audience. It was also at this school where Estelle earned her certificate as a pianist. After high school, she went to work for the National Blank Book Company. Soon after, Estelle met and married Ray Sourdiffe on May 30, 1952 and then moved to South Hadley where they raised their four children. Estelle began working as a bookkeeper for her and her husband's contracting business and apartment complex. A good part of her life was spent boating on the Connecticut River with friends and family where they would swim by day, sit by the campfire at night, and have many family sing-alongs around Estelle's piano as she played. Estelle was also an avid bowler for many years and became a serious Bingo player later in life. She also loved sports of all kinds, especially the RedSox and the Patriots- whom Estelle fittingly termed "the Brady Bunch". Estelle later retired from Rite Aid pharmacy. Besides her parents, Estelle was preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond Sourdiffe, in 2014. She was also predeceased by her sister, Corinne; brother, Robert; sister, Adele; and great-grandson, Nathanial. She will be dearly missed by her four children, Dale Vieu and wife Linda McDonald of Holyoke, Jan Sourdiffe of Chicopee, Deen and wife Diane Sourdiffe of Belchertown, and Ray Sourdiffe of South Hadley. She also leaves her brothers, Richard Hamelin of Indiana and Phil Hamelin of Indian Orchard, as well as 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held July 12 from 4-7 pm at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held the following morning at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church.  Please meet directly at the church   Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery.
