Obituary of Hugh Joseph Moriarty

Belchertown - Hugh J. Moriarty, 85, passed away September 15, 2021 at home. He was born on August 15, 1936 in Worcester, MA to Hugh A. and Mary (Moran) Moriarty. He was raised in Worcester and after high school received his bachelor's degree in accounting from College of the Holy Cross. Hugh has lived in Belchertown for 35 years and previously lived in Youngstown, Ohio. He retired from Crane Company as a comptroller where he worked for many years. Hugh was a communicant of St. Francis Church and a member of the Belchertown Knights of Columbus Council 10698. He loved to be outdoors and enjoyed various activities such as, fishing, boating, sailing, camping and gardening. He loved playing the piano and was a Jazz enthusiast. He was also an avid Red Sox's fan and a dog lover. He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Christine McNamara and her husband John of Rochdale, MA, a son Mark Moriarty of S. Carolina and a brother, James Moriarty of Worcester. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Ryan, Jonathan, Jennifer, Nathan and Kaden, three great grandchildren, Gunnar, Jaiden, and Elijah and his companion, Diane Seaver of Florence, MA and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Maureen Connolly-LaRose. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Worcester. Calling hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Belchertown Knights of Columbus Chapter 10698, 11 Jabish St., Belchertown, MA 01007.
