Obituary of David Robert Barrett

David R Barrett, 67, of South Hadley, MA passed away November 19th , 2021 at Holyoke Medical Center due to complications from COVID-19. He was born on September 13th , 1954 in Edinburgh, Scotland to Alistair and Christina (Ronald) Barrett. David lived in Scotland for most of his life. He moved to Ashland, MA in 2003 where he lived for 16 years before becoming a resident of South Hadley, MA in 2019. In June 2019, David retired as Head of Business Continuity Americas from Aberdeen Standard Investments, where he worked for them on both sides of the Atlantic for 47 years. David has influenced the development of many young lives from his over 32 years of dedicated service as a leader to The Boys Brigade in Edinburgh, (where he started as a young boy), The Boy Scouts of America where he was involved as a troop leader in Ashland, MA, as well as a youth soccer coach. He was an active Masonic lodge member for over 25 years at both Columbian Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Boston, and the Portobello Masonic Lodge No. 226 in Edinburgh. He was also active in his local community. Never one to sit still when he retired, David spent many hours in the garden and on long walks with Callie, his four-legged companion. He also took up the game of golf.

David gave every moment of his life to what he loved doing, but his family always came first. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Karen M. (Maisch) Barrett and their two children, Craig Barrett of Stoneham, MA and Jennifer Barrett who attends Berkshire Hills Music Academy in South Hadley. He is also survived by his twin sister, Linda Archibald and her husband, Ian, of Scotland and close family from both sides of the Atlantic, who have all shared his love.
