Obituary of Yvonne M Walch

Brimfield- On Jan. 2nd, Yvonne M. Walch, 79, of Brimfield, MA passed away peacefully in her home with loving family by her side.

She was born February 11th, 1942 in Barre, VT, the 2nd of two children to George & Adrienne Vermette. She graduated from High School of Commerce in Springfield in 1960. She married her husband Richard in 1962 and lived in Indian Orchard, MA for a short while, raising their 2 sons and first daughter there until purchasing the family home in Brimfield in 1969. They increased the family to 5 children with the births of 2 more daughters there.

After many years of being a stay-at-home Mom to her five children, she entered the workforce as a cafeteria worker at Brimfield Elementary School. She continued on to The Town Toggery in Palmer, spent some time cleaning houses and eventually moved on to her career with the Monson Developmental Center in 1987, where she worked for 16 years until retirement in 2003.

Yvonne was blessed with an abundance of skills. She was an excellent seamstress with a natural talent to craft/make anything. She had phenomenal baking and cooking skills, which she passed down to all her children. She took great pride in tending to her many flower gardens, and learned to cut hair from her step-father, Gus the Barber. She was truly a “Jill of all trades”. She loved bird-watching, was an avid reader, and became an “expert-level” Jumbles puzzle solver. One of her greatest joys came from watching her beloved Boston Red Sox.

In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband of 57 years Richard C. Walch. She will be sadly missed by her 5 children; Fred Walch of Three Rivers, MA, Rich Walch and wife Lisa of Palmer, MA, Lorene Skaza of Ludlow, MA, Darlene Wood and husband Jeff of E. Brookfield, MA, and Susan Walch of Wales, MA. She also leaves behind 9 cherished grandchildren who she adored: Ryan, Ashley, Cameron, Delaney, Susan, Peter, Elizabeth, Alicia and Mason, in addition to her dear brother George, sister-in-law Dee, many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to her caregivers: the entire staff at Overlook Hospice, her caregivers from HCIL, and especially Missy, her primary caregiver who developed a special bond with her from the beginning.
