Obituary of Leon Gerard Legare
South Hadley-Leon G. Legare, 91, passed away May 10, 2022. He was born in Holyoke on August 25, 1930, son of Louis and Beatrice (Plantier) Legare. Leon has lived in South Hadley since 1959 after being raised and living in Holyoke for many years. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during Korea. Leon was employed as a pressman at Hano Business Forms and in his leisure enjoyed fishing, golfing, puzzles and gardening. Leon was member of the Knights of Columbus and dedicated to his family. He was the youngest and last surviving of four children. In 2014, Leon was predeceased by his wife, Esther (Quinlan) and is survived by his seven children Donald and his wife Cindy of Chicopee, Ronald of Plymouth, Sandra O'Brien and her husband Michael of Carver, Peter and his wife Catherine of Meriden, NH, Paul of S. Hadley, Sharon D'Amours and her husband David of Feeding Hills, Anne Broussard and her husband Joseth of Hampden. Leon also will be long remembered by 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday, May 16 from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church and burial at St. Rose Cemetery.
