Obituary of Leroy H. Fredette

Belchertown—Leroy H. Fredette, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at the Elaine Center in Hadley. Son of the late Henry and Florence (Avery) Fredette, he was born in Holyoke on September 17, 1934. 
Leroy graduated from Holyoke High School. He took many courses at WNEC. He also received certification from the Dale Carnegie Program. Leroy worked in the paper industry throughout his life. Most notably at Sonoco and Texxon. 

Leroy loved sports. He played varsity soccer for Holyoke High School. He also played softball, tennis, raquet ball and golf. His passion was skiing. Leroy loved to ski. He was the Patrol Leader of the Ski Patrol at Chickley Alps in Charlemont, MA. Skiing was a family affair. It was common to see his children, in-laws, nieces and nephews at Chickley Alps every weekend. Leroy also volunteered his time to the Blind Skiing Program. As a young couple Leroy and Betty bought a house on High St in Granby, MA and soon made it a home. He made lifelong friends with the neighbors. Their children became friends with his children. High St life was special. Leroy and Betty lived there for 50 years.

Leroy will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife of 68 years, Florence “Betty”  (Ashworth) Fredette; his children Joy Fredette of Chicopee, Lee Fredette of Easthampton, Barry Fredette and his wife Catherine of South Hadley and April Fredette-Judicki and her fiancee Paul Stucky of Granby, his 5 grandchildren, Kyle Fredette, Kaylee Watson, Tyler Judicki, Samantha Judicki, and Craig Judicki; his 3 great-grandchildren Jayce & Parker Watson and Easton Judicki; as well as many extended family members and friends. 

Visitation will be from 1:00pm-3:00pm with a funeral home service beginning at 3pm on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St. 

Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, https://www.cancer.org/
