Obituary of Irmgard Elisabeth Schubring

Wilbraham- Irmgard Elisabeth Schubring, 96, passed away June 7, 2022 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. She was born on May 20, 1926 in Friedland, Germany to the late Otto and Elisabeth M. (Kleinfeld) Ewert and came to this country in 1956. While in Germany, Irmgard worked as a telephone operator, married the love of her life, Erich, and had a beautiful son, Detlef. After she and her family made the courageous move to the States, they made their home in Indian Orchard and later relocated to Wilbraham in 2003. After gaining her citizenship, Irmgard worked at Carter's in Springfield, Sunshine Art Studio, and King's and Mars Department Stores. She enjoyed the company of family and friends and looked forward the days where they could all sit together and play cards. Irmgard was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Erich Schubring in 2018 and by their son, Detlef Schubring in 2000. Irmgard's sister, Dora Ewert, also predeceased her. She will be dearly missed by her niece, Ilona Bernet and her husband John of Palmer; brother, Erich Ewert and wife Irmgard of Germany; granddaughter, Jennifer Schubring and great-grandchildren, D'Andre and Jenyia, all of Chicopee; nephews, Dennis Pieniak of Monson, and Edward Pieniak and his wife Gail of Florida; as well as many dear friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 17th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home with a Celebration of Irmgard's Life to begin at 6:00 p.m.. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rays of Hope Baystate Health Foundation in Springfield.
