Obituary of Beverly A. Dearness

Beverly (Dorey) Ashton Dearness, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at the home of her daughter. Daughter of the late Malcolm and Dorothy (Labroad) Dorey, she was born on May 7, 1934, in Palmer, MA.

Beverly was predeceased by her first husband, William Ashton, her second husband John Dearness and sister Martha Barrett and half-brother Kenneth Dorey.

Beverly was a graduate of Belchertown High School and the Springfield Hospital School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse. Before returning to the area to be closer to family she lived in Redondo Beach California, Salt Lake City Utah, and Surprise Arizona.

Beverly was an avid reader, loved playing bridge and most of all loved spending time with her family.

Beverly will be dearly missed by all who knew her, including her three children, David Ashton and his wife, Kim of South Hadley, Joanne Szafranowicz and her husband, John of South Hadley, and Glenn Ashton of New Jersey; three half-sisters, Sandra Riggs of Florida, Andrea Kacmarcik of South Carolina, and Carol Evans of Massachusetts; eight grandchildren Megan Tweedie, Bill Ashton, Sarah Smith, Kyle Szafranowicz, Timothy Ashton, Jeremy Ashton, James McGowan, Erin Sanchez; as well as nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St, from 9:00am – 10:30am.

A funeral home service will begin at 10:30am and burial will immediately follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
