Obituary of Ronald Albert Mongeon

Chicopee--Ronald Albert Mongeon, 83, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Son of the late Albert and Viola (Lynch) Mongeon, he was born in Springfield on March 22, 1939.

After his high school graduation, Ron joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean War.

Ron worked for Sears for more than 30 years before retiring. Ron was an active member of his community and was a member of the American Legion Post 270 in Indian Orchard, the Knights of Columbus, the Lions Club and most recently the Freemasons and Shriners. Ron was also very active in the drum corps community since his childhood and played in, and donated his time to the Marksmen, the Targets Drum and Bugle Corps and most recently, the Shriners Drum Corps.

Ron will most recently be remembered for his work with the Shriners Drum Corps, and his work to raise money for the Shriners Hospital for Children. Ron had a great devotion to this organization and was proud to talk to everyone about the great work they do to improve the lives of all the people that come in contact with them.

Ron will be dearly missed by all who knew him, including his loving wife of 47 years, Lise (Grondin) Mongeon; his daughter, Debra Small of Ware, his sons, Ronald Mongeon of Stafford Springs, CT, Todd Mongeon of Springfield, Michael Mongeon and his husband, Kenneth Blood of Leominster; his 10 grandchildren & 8 great-grandchildren; as well as many extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Ron is predeceased by his sisters, Gloria Grindle and Therese Przechocki.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St.

Friends & Family are invited to gather at the funeral home the following morning, Thursday, October 6, at 9:30am for a procession to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby for Ron's Mass of Christian Burial, beginning at 11:00am. Rites of Committal and Interment to follow in West Cemetery, Granby.
