Obituary of Stanley H. Libucha

After a courageous battle with ALS, Stanley H. Libucha of Belchertown passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at the age 84, with his family by his side.

Born in Indian Orchard, he was the son of Edna (Warchol) Libucha Land and Thaddeus Libucha. He graduated from Technical High School in Springfield and served in the U. S. Navy on USS English. After military service, he attended Western New England College.

Stanley was married to the love of his life, Patricia (Lisowski) Libucha for more than 56 years. They lived in Amherst for 35 years, raising two children. He worked at the University of Massachusetts for nearly 30 years as the Assistant Foreman in the Grounds Department.

He was most proud of his activities within the AFSCME, Local 1776 union, serving as Chief Steward, Parliamentarian for the Executive Board, and Chapter Chairperson of the Physical Plant, representing the largest block of employees.

In retirement, Stanley and his wife Patricia built their dream home on Holland Pond in Belchertown, where he was a founding member of the Tri Lakes Watershed Association. He loved the outdoors, gardening, hunting, golfing, and walking his beagles. He was an avid reader of World War II novels and watched old movies.

In addition to his loving wife Patricia, he is survived by his children, Tracy Black and her husband, Adam of Lancaster, PA; Stanley “Rocky” Libucha and his wife, Alicia of Haverhill, MA; four cherished grandchildren, Madison and Nicole Black and Jack and Isabella Libucha; sisters in law Eleanor Malek of Hadley, MA and Joan Libucha of Hartford, CT, brother in law Charles Malek, niece Cynthia Malek and many loving relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his brother (Bratch) Chester Libucha and stepfather, Bruno Land.

The family wishes to thank Bay State VNA Services and Hospice Program for their care and compassion during this most difficult time.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, November 4, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Beers & Story Funeral Home, Maple St., Belchertown. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Belchertown. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. to form the funeral procession to the church. Burial with military honors immediately following at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Main Street, Three Rivers. Donations may be made in his memory to the ALS Association, Paralyzed Veterans of America, or Bay State Hospice.
