Harold Bacon

Obituary of Harold Francis Bacon

Harold Francis Bacon, 88, a lifelong resident of Brimfield, MA, passed away peacefully Friday October 28th among loved ones at Baystate Medical Center in Palmer, MA. A generous and humble man who took pride in and loved his family above all things. His smile lit up the room and he always had a comical comeback to leave you with a smile too. Harold was born into a large family and as such started working at a young age on the railroad, Massachusetts Turnpike bridges and service stations. Harold had a love of motorcycles (and all things that went fast) which coupled with his mechanical skills, lead him to the position as the head of the parts department at Indian Motorcycle in Springfield, MA until it’s closure. He later settled into a career as a welder and eventually head of machinery maintenance at a small family business Utility Manufacturing, owned by the Reed family in Wilbraham, where he fostered many generations entering into the business until retirement . Harold was also a founding member and volunteer of the West Brimfield Fire Department. Harold was proud of his Native American heritage as a tribal member of the Wampanoag Indian tribe of Gay Head Aquinnah, Martha’s Vineyard MA . He enjoyed his trips to the homeland and assisting in tribal activities serving others. Harold leaves two sisters Rose Cadieux of Brimfield and Charlotte Bacon of Charlton. His beloved Children Cynthia Poirier and her devoted friend Rick Poirier of Holland and Guy Bacon and his devoted friend Wendy Johnson of Wales. His loving grandchildren Ashley Gliss and her husband Ed Gliss of South Carolina, Eric Poirier and his partner Alyssa Tremblay of Brimfield, Bruce Bacon and his wife Jenn Bacon of Monson, Morgan Bacon, and her partner Brandon Lapierre of Wales and Chandle Scanlon and her partner Steve Comtois of Wales. He leaves 8 great grandchildren, several nieces, and nephews, including his nephew, Roy E Bacon Jr., who was like a son to him and always kept his grounds groomed and helped with many projects. He leaves his sister-in-law Florence Bacon. He also leaves his dear companion and lifelong friend Claire Kennett of Palmer. The family wishes to acknowledge the care and kindness of Quaboag on The Common Skilled Nursing and Rehab, Dr. Chen, Hospitalist and all the nurses and staff at Baystate Wing Palmer who took excellent care of him and kept him smiling. The family is most appreciative of the Baystate Hospice Team for the care, support, and utmost comfort they provided. The family will hold a private service and asks for a donation to Baystate Hospice in lieu of flowers to honor Harold’s giving spirit and completion of his circle of life. Checks can be made out to "Baystate Hospice Patient Funds" and mailed to: Baystate Health Foundation, 280 Chestnut St, 5th Floor, Springfield, MA 01199
