Michael Moriarty, Sr

Obituary of Michael J. Moriarty, Sr

Ware-Michael J. Moriarty, Sr, 85, passed away February 22, 2023.  Born in Ware on November 26, 1937, he was the son of Maurice and Alice (Darling) Moriarty.  Michael has been a lifelong resident of Ware and was raised on the family farm, on land that has been in the Moriarty family for many generations.  Michael was known throughout the community as the owner and operator of MJ Moriarty & Sons.  He proudly served in the National Guard and was a member of the Ware Knights of Columbus.

“Big Mike” loved his family and friends, was a natural with animals, and took great pride in his work and property.  He was hard-working, generous, and loved what he did.  With his easy-going demeanor, he enjoyed telling jokes and stories, and loved to make people laugh.

The twinkle in his eyes, quick wit and warm grin will long be remembered by his family and friends.  Michael's memory will be cherished by his wife of almost 60 years, Diane M. (DeSantis) Moriarty as well as their son, Michael J. Moriarty, Jr and his wife Laurie of Ware as well as three grandsons, Kevin and Brian Demers and Sean M. Moriarty.  Michael was predeceased by his son, Sean P. Moriarty in 1991 as well as his two brothers, Maurice Moriarty, Jr. and Arthur Moriarty, and nephew Arthur Jr.

Visitation will be Monday, February 27 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home with a service to begin at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow in New St. William's Cemetery in Ware.  For those wishing, donations may be made in his memory to 4H or a charity of choice for Michael's love of animals.
