



Obituary of Edward J. Coan
Edward Joseph Coan passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 21st 2023, in Venice, Florida. Born in Boston, MA on December 15th 1953 to the late Thomas and Helen (Ryan) Coan. Ed is survived by his wife, Peggy (Coughlin) of 44 years. He is also survived by his beloved children Katie Radebaugh (Mark), Joe (Greta), Mike (Carla) and Kevin (Kathleen). Ed will be deeply missed by his nine grandchildren Abby, Andrew, Jeremiah, Hannah, Cecilia, Camila, Nora, Luke and Avery. He is also survived by his brothers Tom, Larry (Beth), Franny and Steve (Patti).
Ed lived in Brimfield with his family for 29 years. He was previously from Newton, MA. Ed was a 31-year member of the Boston Fire Department, retiring as Captain of Ladder 1-North End. He was very honored and proud to have been a firefighter working alongside other Boston Firefighters during his tenure.
After retirement, Ed volunteered at St. Christopher’s Parish in Brimfield. Ed and Peggy spent the last eight winters in Venice, Florida where they met great friends. Ed was a devoted husband, father, grampy, brother and friend to all who met him.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday March 9th from 4-7pm at Beers and Story Funeral Home in Palmer, MA.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday March 10th at 11 am at St. Christopher’s in Brimfield, MA. Please meet directly at the church.
