Obituary of Neil McCann

Neil Shaw McCann, 79, passed away peacefully at home on March 2, 2023 after a brief illness. He leaves his wife of 55 years, Karin Ann (Russ) McCann; his children: Andrea Filipkowski and Brian McCann both of Belchertown; his granddaughter, Alexis Filipkowski of Warren; several nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and dear friends.

He was born in Springfield in 1943, the son of the late, William S. and Barbara F. (Beckwith) McCann. Neil grew up in Westfield along with his younger brother John "Jack" who predeceased him in 2017. In 1968 he met and married his wife, Karin. They made a life together in Belchertown where they raised two children, Andrea and Brian. Another son, Scott passed away in 1971. Neil's career included Valley Bank and Trust Co., a Vice President and Mortgage Loan Officer for the former Ludlow Savings Bank, Ludlow Hospital, Wilbraham Insurance Agency, Wilbraham Light Shop and Manny's TV & Appliance in Wilbraham. He also served on numerous boards and committees in Belchertown, Ludlow and Wilbraham. Neil was a member and former deacon of the First Church in Ludlow and he and Karin were also the owners of The Grain Store which was located at their farm in Belchertown for several years. Neil loved summers at Lake George in Wales, trips to Cape Cod, boating on Lake George in NY and enjoyed being an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He was an amazing and sweet gentleman who was devoted to his wife and his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
