Bob was born and raised in Springfield, the only son of the late David B. and Mary E. (Ling) Black with four sisters. His father passed when he was 11 years old so he was the man of the house. He was a hard worker and dedicated to his family. Bob worked over 20 years as a Springfield Firefighter until his retirement in the late 1980's but he also worked selling cars, delivering milk, plowing snow during the winter months, working in a greenhouse growing flowers and all different types of odd jobs that came his way. Restoring his 1940's Ford filled his time and he enjoyed driving it. He and Sandra would ride around on his Harley Davidson motorcycles and went on many road trips up to Canada, in their younger years they would spend summers with the kids at the beaches in Old Lyme, CT and Bob always loved fishing and taking his boat out to Niantic Sound. All who knew Bob will miss him dearly.
