Obituary of V. Maureen Brown

Maureen,“ Moe”, Brown, 94, of Belchertown, MA passed away March 19, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family. Mom Brown as she was known by many, surrounded herself with family and friends who became family. She welcomed anyone through the years to join in celebrations and loved nothing more than to have her family around. Mom had a quick wit, an engaging smile and sparkling blue eyes that gave away her Irish heritage that she was so proud of .She was born on July 16, 1928, in Palmer, MA to George and Minnie (Cole) LaFond. She was raised in the Three Rivers section of Palmer and at the age of nineteen relocated to Belchertown and resided there ever since. She retired in 1990, from the Belchertown State School where she worked in administration for 22 years. Moe was a member of the Belchertown United Church of Christ. In her leisure, she enjoyed traveling and was an avid bird watcher. Her constant companion for many years was Major, the cat. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Kenneth Brown, her son Kevin Brown and grandson Tommy Brown. She is survived by five children, David Brown (Jo-Ann) of Waxhaw, NC, Tracy Brown of Belchertown, Thomas Brown (Nancy) of Belchertown, Esther Legere of Crestline, OH, Meredith Normandeau (Don) of Granby and a daughter in law, Cindy Brown of Belchertown. She also leaves five precious grandchildren, Becky, Graham, Christopher, Scott, and Chelsea and four great grandsons Kenneth, Remington, Thomas and Johnathan. The family would like to extend profound gratitude and thanks to the caregivers, Abby, Bea and Val, and Baystate Hospice for their professionalism and care.

As the saying goes:

May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back. May the sunshine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
