Obituary of John A. Lastowski, Jr.

Granby- John A. Lastowski, Jr., 66, passed away March 28, 2023. He was born on November 23, 1956 in Northampton to the late John Lastowski, Sr. and Patricia (McCormick) Hannigan. After graduating from Granby High School in 1974, John joined the Navy and served on the USS Dahlgren. Following his service in the Navy, he served as a SSG in the Army National Guard 104th Infantry Regiment 26th Infantry Division for over 20 years before retiring in 2001. As a civilian, John worked in commercial roofing and was a member of the Roofers & Slaters Local 248 union in Chicopee. John was a current member of the American Legion Post #266 in Granby, where he was the former commander for 5 years. John loved all New England sport teams sports. He was a gifted natural athlete and over the years competed in many local leagues in softball, football, darts, and horseshoes. He also enjoyed camping at Peppermint Park while hosting friends and family as well as spending Sundays with the guys at "John's Bar" Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Melanie (Gagne) Lastowski, in 2016, and his sister, Tina Elia, in 2017. He will be deeply missed by his children, Kevin Gagne and wife Jennifer, Sonya Daviau and husband Rich, and Crystal VanBuren and husband Jay; step-children, Nathan Layton and Maria Pena; siblings, Kathy Lacasse, Charles Lastowski, and Jennifer Nylund; step-siblings, Tawnya Lastowksi and Derek Tyburski; and his significant other Donna Mugnier; as well as numerous grandchildren whom he loved spending time with. Visitation will be held on April 6, 2023 at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home from 10:00am-1:00pm with a service to begin at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at the Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Mathew J. Vieu Memorial Fund, Inc..
