Lester Girard

Obituary of Lester R. Girard

Granby- Lester Raymond Girard, 94, passed away at home on April 25, 2023 with his loved ones by his side.Lester was born on December 20, 1928 in Holyoke to the late Albert and Florence (Jasmine) Girard. He lived in Holyoke and South Hadley before moving to Granby in 1966. Lester attended school in Holyoke and enlisted in the Navy in January of 1946.

He worked at Worthington Pump/Atlas Copco for 43 years before retiring in 1990. He held many job titles, with the last being Trouble Shooter and Lead Man.He tinkered with anything he could get his hands on and there was nothing he couldn’t fix. He loved working on cars and TVs. If you needed something fixed, he was the man to call. As he put it, he was a “Jack of all trades, Master of none.”

After retiring he loved to travel with his wife to places like Washington DC, Rhode Island, and Maine to take in the history and sites. He also enjoyed camping. In the past year or so, he loved listening to any kind of music. He kept Alexa busy playing all the music he grew up with, and boy did he let her have it when she didn’t play what he wanted! In the last few months, because he loved listening to piano, his favorite artist was Frankie Carl. This is one artist we won’t soon forget. He also built up a fine collection of model cars. From cars to motorcycles and fire trucks, both old and new, he had fun collecting them and showed them off in a display case.

He was a great father who would help his children any way he could. Day or night, he would be there if you needed him. He taught us many things for which we will be forever grateful.

He is survived by his four children, Sharon Rogers (Joel) of South Carolina, Lori Girard (Deb) of Ware, Pamela Monska of Three Rivers, and Raymond (Leo) of Florida. He surely leaves a legacy with 8 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Florence (Jasmine) Girard-Santos; his wife, Barbara Joan (Sully) Girard, in 1997; sister, Thelma (Girard) Funk- Ferraria; and his nephew, Henry Funk.

Calling hours will be held on Sun. April 30th from 2-5pm at Beers and Story South Hadley Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Mon. May 1st at 10am. Burial will immediately follow in West Cemetery in Granby.
