Obituary of Ruby Cates Veitenheimer
Granby- Ruby Cates Veitenheimer, 97, of Granby, Massachusetts passed away April 28, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born on April 5, 1926 in North Conway, NH, to the late Neil C. and Eva M. (Cheney) Cates.
In 1965, Ruby relocated to Longmeadow, MA, a town she was dedicated to serving. Ruby worked for many years in the Longmeadow Public School District before retiring as Head Bookkeeper in 1986. She then volunteered her time, continuing to assist the school district and the Longmeadow Public Library for over 20 years before fully retiring at the age of 90. In 2019, Ruby became a Granby resident.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, and working outside in her garden. She would often pass the time solving crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. More than anything else, Ruby loved spending time with her family.
Besides her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herman Veitenheimer, and their daughter, Annice (Veitenheimer) Rogers. She was also predeceased by her 5 siblings. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Eva-Marie Holley and her husband, Scott, of Buffalo, WY; son, Mark Veitenheimer and his wife, Doreen, of Granby, MA; grandchildren, Jeffrey Veitenheimer, Ashly Rogers, Tyler Rogers, Faith Patel, and Michael Veitenheimer; as well as several great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 5th from 4-6pm with a celebration of life service to begin at 6pm at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home. Burial will be held at the family's discretion.
