Amy Hamel

Obituary of Amy Rose Hamel

Amherst- Amy Rose Hamel, 40, passed away unexpectedly on May 29, 2023. Amy was born on September 2, 1982 in Northampton to Paul H. and Nancy J. Hamel. She leaves behind her parents, and her brother, Aaron P. Hamel, his wife, Elizabeth (Libby) Hamel, and beloved nieces, Claire Anita and Bridget Erin Hamel.

Amy lived in Amherst her entire life and graduated from ARHS and UMass. Amy and her mom were "The Hamel Team", selling real estate in the Valley for Jones Group Realtors. She enjoyed Yoga, good food & wine, fashion, card games, spending time with friends, and her dog, Chloe Bear.

Amy was in NYC at the time of 9/11 and in the fallout of the World Trade Center dust storm. She saw people crossing the Brooklyn Bridge covered in soot. On that blue sky day, her windows were open and she could see the World Trade Center. She was never healthy after that day. Amy also suffered with late stage Lyme Disease. Her symptoms were never textbook. She fought the many health issues and spent most of her income on treatment. She traveled to a Seattle clinic four times a year for consecutive days of treatment for 10 years. Once Covid hit, that changed. She was always trying anything to feel better.

Because Amy had been treated in Seattle, she didn't have a local primary care physician. Tried as we might, we couldn't get an appointment with a PC until January of 2024. We feel the medical community needs to reexamine the "do no harm" clause of their medical oaths. It's a sad thing when desperately ill people try to find help. Three emergency rooms didn't respond to the calls for help either.

It is our hope that Amy is at peace with no physical or mental pain. She fought a good fight for decades rarely complaining. She is hopefully reunited with her grandparents, Henry & Jacqueline Hamel and Rene & Jacqueline Leduc, and her beloved godmother, Anne Leduc Wojcik Romano.
