James Renauld

Obituary of James Eugene Renauld

South Hadley-James (Jim) E. Renauld passed away peacefully on June 6, 2023. Jim was born on January 5, 1944 to his loving parents, Frederick and Leona (Quesnel) Renauld. Jim was raised on South Summer Street in Holyoke, Ma. On any given day, he loved to tell stories about growing up in Holyoke. Even though he lived in other parts of Western Massachusetts at various times he was always a true "Holyoker." Recently asked by Father David Raymond, what was an accomplishment he was most proud of, Jim's reply was, "friendships." Jim had a network of friends some of who he met through AA, others on his route as a letter carrier or just striking up a conversation wherever he was. During his 41 years of sobriety, Jim continuously attended AA meeting and helped many people to obtain sobriety. In 1967, Jim met the love of his life, Winefred (Gaughan) Renauld, affectionately known to many as Winnie or Una; they married on June 14, 1969. Jim and Una were longtime residents of South Hadley, then later moved to where they continued to cherish their lives in Palm Harbor, Florida; upon Jim's retirement as a letter carrier for the United States Post Office. Together, they spent their last 10 years together, zig zagging across Florida and took many trips back to Una's homeland, Ireland. Upon Una's death in 2019, Jim moved back to South Hadley. Jim was predeceased by his parents, brothers Frederick and Raymond, and most recently his sister Barbara Eastman. Jim is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Jim was very thankful to have his cousin, Michael Quesnel, as his caregiver. Donations may be made in Jim's memory to Western Massachusetts Intergroup, United Congregational Church 300 Appleton St. Holyoke, MA 01040. Jim will be laid to rest on Wednesday June 14, 2023, which would have been his and Winnie's 54th wedding anniversary, at 11:00 am at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Friends and family may meet at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. to travel in procession to the cemetery.
