Obituary of Chun Keung Wong

Springfield - Chun Keung “Harry” Wong, 76, passed away peacefully on Father’s Day Sunday, June 18, 2023. Harry was born in 1946 and raised by Hue Tai and Wong Xi in Guangdong, China. He was a brilliant student, loving brother, and hardworking son.

In 1966, he immigrated to America. He worked as a waiter in New York City and soon after became a chef. After moving to Springfield MA, he co-founded Hong Kong Garden on Wilbraham Road. On October 21, 1985, he married Yuet Mei “Amy” Chow. Harry and Amy went on to have four children, Chi Chun, May Ling, Chi Wan, and Chi Min.

In 1997, Harry opened “Hong Kong Island” restaurant on Chestnut Street in Springfield. Harry was well known in his community for his delicious food and fun loving spirit. He made friends wherever he went. He enjoyed cooking special dinners for his family and attending his children and grandchildrens’ sporting events. He was the proudest father and grandfather and loved his family very much. Harry was predeceased by his parents and sister in China.

He will be remembered by his wife Yuet Mei and his four loving children and their families: His Son Chi Chun and his grandchildren Jade and Jordan and their mother Angie, his daughter May Ling, his son Chi Wan and his wife Staci and grandchildren Hailey and Liam, his son Chi Min and his wife Antoinette.

Calling hours will be held at the Beers and Story Palmer Funeral Home, on Saturday, June 24th from 10:00 to 12:00pm followed by a graveside service at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Palmer.
