Obituary of Margaret A. Sowell

Granby - Margaret A (Christie) Sowell, 85, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2023. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 28, 1938 to the late Charles and Margaret (Hamelburg) Christie. Margaret was preceded in death last year by her loving husband of 65 years, James Sowell.

Marge and Jim started their family in Brooklyn, NY in 1956 and then moved to Western Massachusetts in 1970 where they would spend the remainder of their lives together with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They enjoyed many hobbies together including camping and traveling. Marge was extremely active in animal rescue and loved all animals. She was an Office Manager for over 25 years at New England Etching in Holyoke, MA.

She will be dearly missed by her son Brian Sowell and wife Audrey, daughter Debbie Gaj and her husband Russell, daughter Linda Mclean and husband Mark, grandchildren the late Russell JR., Christopher, Meghan, Angela, Kelly, Jim and Jennifer, great grandchildren Caitlyn, Grace, John, Eammon. Harper and Fiona.

Visitation will be on Friday June 30, 2023 from 8:30-9:30 am at Beers & Story Funeral Home in South Hadley, MA followed by a 10:00 am Mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby, MA. Burial will immediately follow in West Street Cemetery in Granby, MA. Donations in Marge’s name can be made to the Dakin Humane Society PO Box 6307 Springfield, MA 01101.
