Obituary of Margaret St. Martin

Margaret (Higgins) St. Martin, 80, passed away on July 1, 2023, surrounded by family. She was born on May 27, 1943 in Holyoke to the late Arthur and Margaret (Long) Higgins. Meg graduated 
from Holyoke High School in 1961.
Meg worked for Allen White Insurance Co., before joining South Hadley Fire District 1, where she remained for over thirty years until her retirement. She traveled to her ancestral home of Ireland multiple times throughout her life. The highlight of her summers for many years was traveling to Rye, New Hampshire, to spend time with family at the beach.
Meg is predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Margaret Higgins; sister, Carol Thompson and her  husband, Wayne; and cousin, Ellen (Clifford) McGuire. She is survived by her son, Bob St. Martin; nephew, Scott Thompson; nieces, Julie Thompson, and Bevin and Molly Kenney; and great nieces, Sarah, Hailey, Elizabeth, and Molly Thompson.
Calling hours will be held the morning of July 11, 2023 from 9-11am at the Beers and Story South Hadley Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30am at St. Patrick’s Church, 30 Main St., South Hadley, and Christian Burial at St. Rose Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Meg’s honor to Vested Interest in K9s of Taunton, Massachusetts, to sponsor a bullet and stab-protective vest for a police k9 in need. The donated vest will have Meg’s name embroidered on it. Checks should be made out to “Vested Interest in K9s” and be dropped off or mailed to Beers and Story Funeral Home, 646 Newton St., South Hadley, MA 01075, in memory of Meg St. Martin. Donations should be made no later than Monday July 31, 2023 to allow for processing.
