Obituary of Barbara R. Sullivan

South Hadley - Barbara R. (Miller) Sullivan, 89, passed away on July 14, 2023, at Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing surrounded by her family. She was born on June 30, 1934, in Holyoke, MA to Donald and Ruth (Halkyard) Miller. Barbara was a lifelong resident of South Hadley. She graduated from South Hadley High School and earned her diploma of nursing from Holyoke Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. Barbara worked many years as a nurse at Holyoke Hospital on the pediatric unit. Barbara then went on to work for Holyoke Pediatric Associates, retiring after a fulfilling career of nursing at the age of 72. Barbara was an avid Red Sox fan. She always looked forward to the upcoming season and spent many years cheering on her favorite team. Barbara also loved animals, especially dogs, and regularly donated to the MSPCA. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased in death by her husband Bernard J. Sullivan; her sister Judith Fleming; and her brother in law John Fleming. She will be deeply missed by her three children, Sandra Sullivan of South Hadley; Susan Underwood and her husband Jeffrey of Longmeadow; and Brian Sullivan and his wife Carol Bonnet of Longmeadow. She also leaves a sister Linda Cadieux and her husband Richard of South Hadley, and a brother in law Eugene Sullivan and his wife Patricia of South Hadley. In addition, she leaves five beloved grandchildren: Katie Cuscovitch, Lauren Blondek, Corey McMaster, Sara Twietmeyer, Madison Sullivan, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Barbara's family would like to thank the staff at Reeds Landing and her caregivers for their compassionate care. Family and friends may gather at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home on Thursday, July 20th for visitation from 10:00-11:00am. A graveside service will immediately follow at Evergreen cemetery in South Hadley.
