Obituary of Jeffrey J. Cyr

Jeffrey J. Cyr USN

South Hadley- Jeffrey Joseph Cyr, passed away unexpectedly on August 29, 2023 at the age of 61. He was born on November 25, 1961 in Holyoke, Massachusetts, the son of Robert and Jeannette Cyr.

Shortly after graduating from South Hadley High School, he proudly served his country in the US Navy on the USS Independence and USS Forrestal, in Grenada and Lebanon respectively, as an Electrical/Mechanical Equipment Repairman. Among his many accomplishments, he received a Navy Expeditionary Medal (Lebanon), an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with one Bronze star, and a Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon.

Jeff loved driving around in his Monte Carlo and had many stories to tell about his metallic blue Camaro he had back in the day, as he had a passion for old muscle cars. He also enjoyed listening to rock music, tanning beachside at Camp Jahn, and going on hunting trips.

Above all else, he loved his daughters and his family. He was a great father and really enjoyed taking his daughters on adventures; from candlepin bowling at Holyoke Turn Hall to camping and fishing on the Connecticut River to letting them stay up late to watch sci-fi movies, there was never a dull moment. He was a genuine, kind soul with a huge forgiving heart.

Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Jeannette (Bielas) Cyr; sister, Karen Cyr Wallace; and his brother, Stephen Cyr. He will be dearly missed by his daughters, Katie and Amy Cyr; father, Robert Cyr and his wife Joan; brother, Robert Cyr; stepsiblings, Mark and Lisa Bielas; as well as nieces and nephews, who knew him as Uncle Jay, Aliea, Robert, Marzieh, Shara, and Jad Wallace, and Krystal and Justin Cyr.

His memorial service will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 9:00am in the chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jeffrey's memory can be made to:
