Obituary of Karen Jean Grimes

Palmer- Karen Jean Grimes, 67, passed away April 19, 2024 with her family by her side. She was born on July 8, 1956 in Palmer, to the late Donald and Edith (Thompson) Smith. After graduating from Tantasqua High School in Fiskdale, Karen focused on raising her children and managing her home. Years later, she received her certification from STCC and worked as a CNA for many years before recently retiring in 2023. She loved lighthouses which became a common theme in her home decor. She also enjoyed traveling and taking long, scenic weekend drives through the states of New England. Karen was very proud of her Native American history and was a member of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head in Aquinnah.

Besides her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her sister, Donna Smith. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Michael "Maxie" Grimes; her children, Robin Galica and Joseph Galica; step-children, Sean (Stacey) Grimes and Nicole (Dan) Bromley; brother, Sonny (Darlene) Smith; grandson, Matthew Fontaine; step-grandchildren, Jake, Olivia, Charlotte, Michael, and Mila; as well as many extended family members and friends.

Services are being held privately and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Karen's name can be made to the Aquinnah Cultural Center, 10 Black Brook Rd. Aquinnah, MA 02535.
