If you’re seeking an honorable celebration of life, we invite you to learn more about where we came from, our vision, and the dedicated people behind our work.

A History of Caring

Our history dates back to the early 1900's when Bert Beers opened the Bert L. Beers Funeral Home on N. Main Street in Palmer, MA. He operated it as such until Herbert Story was hired shortly after returning from World War II.

In 1950, the two men formed a partnership and Beers and Story Funeral Home was established. In 1951, after recognizing the need for a funeral home in his native town, Herb and his wife, Elizabeth (Cook) Story opened a second location in Belchertown, MA., originally located on the town common. In 1967, the business relocated to its current location on 10 Maple Street, Route 202.

Mr. Beers retired soon after the Belchertown opening and Herbert ran the operation for some 35 years until his eldest daughter, Wendy Story, proudly joined him in 1984. They ran the business together until Herb's death in August 1996, and Wendy now serves as President.

In January 1996, Crystal Giroux, a Belchertown native, was hired as a Certified Funeral Director and continues to be an integral part of the business. In October of 2000 Wendy's fiance, Marc Gaudreau, joined the business and became a Registered Funeral Director in May 2001. A milestone was reached in June of 2001 when Wendy's daughter, Alyssa Hall, joined the business shortly after graduating from Mortuary College, representing the third generation.

The business now operates from three locations, as Beers & Story has expanded to Newton Street in South Hadley as of January 2002.

At Beers and Story Funeral Home we take pride in the service we provide our families. We plan to continue the long-standing traditions of personal, caring and professional service that was established by our founding fathers some 50 years ago.

We believe in caring for families with professional and caring staff, personal service and attention to detail, and modern and well maintained facilities. To that end, we strive to excel at what we do and to follow the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Our Staff’s Dedication to Respectful Care

A funeral, or memorial service, should provide family members and loved ones with the chance to reflect, remember, and celebrate a life well-lived. Our goal is to create exceptional services and experiences that fulfill the wishes of your loved one. Our experienced Funeral Directors provide guidance on the crucial first steps toward healing.
