Obituary of Betty J. Gottleib

" Betty J. (Thompson) Gottleib, 76, of Britton St., passed away with her family by her side on March 18, 2007 in Mercy Medical Center. Born June 1, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Hugh C. and Louise (Skadell) Thompson. After her retirement, she was a Senior Companion for the Valley Opportunity Council Senior Companion Program for thirteen years and was named Companion of the Year in 2001. Betty was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, a volunteer at the voting polls in Chicopee and an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. She is survived by three children, Dr. Michael C. Masztal and his wife, Jaci of Melbourne Beach, FL, Dr. David S. Masztal of S. Hadley and Lynn Masztal Marois of S. Hadley. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Michael and Melissa Marois of Brookline, MA and Caleb and Cameron Masztal of Melbourne Beach, FL, several nieces and nephews and by her community of friends at Fairhaven. She was predeceased by a sister, June Schmidt and a brother, John Thompson. A Memorial Service will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church. Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral was entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Valley Opportunity Council Senior Companion Program, 152 Center St., Chicopee, MA 01013 or to Faith United Methodist Church, 191 Montcalm St., Chicopee, MA 01020.
