Obituary of Carl J. Fischer

"Carl J. Fischer, 68, a life long resident of Palmer, passed away on Wednesday, February 21 at Wingate of Wilbraham Nursing Home. Born on September 7, 1938, he was the son of the late Karl and Laura (Dufault) Fischer. Mr. Fischer served his country in the U.S. Army during Korea, and was in the field of communication. He drove many types of trucks such as the M37, M38, M135 and M51’s. Before entering into the military he played professional soccer for General Olympia Soccer Club, a Connecticut and New York professional league. Mr. Fischer’s family formerly owned Fischer’s Inn Restaurant in Palmer where he worked as a bartender. He worked in textile manufacturing before his 23-year tenure at Eastern Container Corp. in Springfield. He retired from there as operations manager. To keep himself occupied following retirement, he worked at Camp Ramah in Palmer. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Christine (Corgnati) Fischer and his daughter Carleen Eve Fischer Hoffman and her husband Brad of East Longmeadow. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, March 2 at 11:00 a.m. in the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, March 1 from 4:00-7:00 pm. For those wishing, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice"
