Obituary of Andrew J Macko

"South Hadley - Andrew J. Macko, 96, passed away on May 25, 2017 in the Holyoke Soldiers' Home surrounded by his family. Born September 8, 1920 in Holyoke, MA, son of Peter and Veronica (Gonet) Macko. He proudly served his country in the US Marines during WWII. He was a communicant of St. Theresa of Lisieux Parish. Andrew retired from Street Lumber in So. Hadley where he worked as a foreman for 52 years. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 66 years, Martha A Macko of South Hadley, three children, David Macko (Susan), Diane Kuc (John) and Eileen Roach (Fred) all of S. Hadley. He also leaves a sister, Carole Slattery (Ed) of Vernon, CT, 7 grandchildren, Jason, Alissa, Jill, Brian, Jacob, Marissa and Nicholas and 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Stella Stark and Evelyn Wells. A calling hour will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 from 10:00-11:00 a.m followed by a service with military honors at 11:00 a.m at the Beers and Story South Hadley Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the Holyoke Soldiers' Home, especially the staff of Two East for their excellent care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Holyoke Soldiers' Home Activity Program, 110 Cherry St., Holyoke, MA 01020. "
