Obituary of Ervin C. Smith

"Ervin C. Smith, 77, of Pleasant St. died Saturday at UMASS Medical Center. Born in Bakersfield, VT, June 29, 1929, he was the son of the late Clifford and Eva (Sweet) Smith and has lived in Palmer for many years. Ervin served his country in the Army during the Korean War and later worked for Boone Trailers in Palmer for 38 years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Day Spring Lodge of Masons in Monson and was also a member of the American Legion Post 130. He served as President of the Friends of Palmer Senior Center, and volunteers monthly with the Brown Bag Program. He was also a member of the Council on Aging and was honored as Volunteer of the Year in 2004. He served twice on the Town Manager Screening Committee. In his leisure, he enjoyed woodworking and gardening and was devoted to helping others. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 49 years, Alice J. (Siegel) Smith along with his devoted daughter Debra Pranaitis and her husband David of Palmer and his cherished granddaughter Katie Pranaitis. He also leaves a special feathered friend, Buddy. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral, followed by burial in Oak Knoll Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. There will be an Evergreen service at 6:30 p.m. For those wishing, donations may be made in his memory to Friends of Palmer Senior Center, 1029 Central St., Palmer, 01069."
