We were shocked and saddened to hear about Steve's accident. He was such a great guy - always with a smile and something nice to say. We remember him helping out with our Girl Scout meetings when the girls were younger. We won't forget him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Amanda, Cameron and Catherine at this difficult time.

Steve was the guy who passed me a hammer when we were building treeforts together as young boys. He was also the guy who handed me a bandaid when I hit my thumb with the hammer. Kav was always there for his friends. I am saddened by his passing. He inspired the good in all of us.

I went to school with Steve, we built tree forts together as chidren. I too was a Paramedic. It has been many years since we had seen each other. A Meeting in A Part by Wendell Berry In a dream I meet my dead friend. He has, I know, gone long and far, and yet he is the same for the dead are changeless. They grow no older. It is I who have changed, grown strange to what I was. Yet I, the changed one, ask: "How you been?" He grins and looks at me. "I been eating peaches off some mighty fine trees."

my brother Dan has shared many special memories of Steve with me over the past few days. He said something which struck me... he can remember Steve from the time they were kids. The special qualities so many treasure in Steve were already present when his old friend was just another kid in the neighborhood. Years and lifetimes separate my memories of Steve and his brother and sister and his mom and dad. But we were always treated pretty special by members of a special family. Dan tells me there will be a real tribute to Steve in Springfield. May his memory stay alive forever in the hearts of his wife and children and his brother and sister. Steve grew up in a special family and spun warmth and real friendship learned from folks who also tried hard to make our community a better place. Through the mercy of God, may his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Dave Dowd

I've just read the Sentinal and have learned of your loss. Stephen was a great person. I always enjoyed my conversations with him as he always seemed sincere and interested. It was clear to me as Cameron's teacher that he always wanted the best for him and the whole family. He had very kind and helpful things to say at my father's wake. I know there isn't anything I can say here that will lesson the pain and shock except maybe to know that he would want you to move forward with your life. That thought helped me when my Dad died suddenly. My thoughts and prayers are with you. DB
