Obituary of George H. Webster

"Monson, George H. Webster, 84, former long time resident of Monson died Thursday, August 3 at Wingate at Wilbraham. Born in Ware, December 8, 1921, he was the son of the late Ethelbert and Margaret (Doherty) Webster and grew up on a farm in the former Quabbin town on Enfield. After settling in Monson in 1939, and graduating from its high school, he proudly served his country during WWII. He served with the 25th Infantry and his Pacific duty took him to Guadal Canal and the Philippines. He proudly earned the Purple Heart Medal while serving in critical battles in the Phillipines. Following the war, George resumed dairy farming and also worked at the former Diamond International in Palmer for 30 years before retiring in 1987. He will be missed by his daughter Christine Charbonneau and her husband Roger of Goshen, KY and his son George H., Jr. and his wife Lolita of Willis, TX, along with a sister Ruth Swords of Jacksonville, FL. He also leaves four grandsons, Eric and Jeremy Charbonneau, and Aaron and Christian Webster, along with his sister in law Edith Webster of Monson and brother in laws Dwight Bryant of Monson and Kenneth Main of Belchertown. His former wife Mary J. (Suchocki) Webster of Monson also survives him. Besides his parents he was predeceased by three sisters, Violet Main, Eleanor Torrey and Dorothy Bryant, and his brother Ethelbert “Junior” Webster. A funeral service will be Tuesday, August 8 at 11:00 a.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, 1475 N. Main St., (Rte 20) followed by burial with military honors in Quabbin Park Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, August 7 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The family would like to acknowledge and give thanks for those special people who provided care and friendship at Wingate Nursing Home.
