Obituary of Edna I. Ritter

"Belchertown, Edna I. (Davignon) Ritter, 90, of Sargent St., died Thursday, July 6 at Mary Lane Hospital. Born in Holyoke January 16, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Hermidas and Blanche (Guinard) Davignon. Edna grew up in Holyoke and Chicopee before moving to Belchertown 51 years ago. She had previously worked at Atkins Farms in Amherst and in the cafeteria in the Belchertown School System. In her leisure, Edna was a talented seamstress and enjoyed camping on Cape Cod. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Henry R. in 1986, her two brothers Armand in 1986, Oscar in 1985 along with her longtime companion Edward Joslyn in 2005. She will be deeply missed by her four children, Carol Gibas and her husband John of Collinsville, TX, Marlene Purdy and her husband Ray of El Cajon, CA, Audrey Provost and her husband Frank of Belchertown, and Russell Ritter and his wife Kathy of Belchertown. She also leaves 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3:00 – 5:30 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home, followed by a Service of Remembrance at 5:30 p.m. A liturgy of Christian burial will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Church followed by burial in Precious Blood Cemetery, S. Hadley. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home on Monday by 9:00 a.m. or meet directly at church.
