Obituary of Rose Dean Murtha

"Rose D. (Munroe) Murtha, 100, of French Dr., passed away Friday, January 13 at her home surrounded by family and friends. Born February 1, 1905, in Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Mayhue McKay and Catherine (Davis) Munroe. Rose has lived in Palmer since the 1930’s and previously worked in the office of 1st National Grocery for 27 years. She also worked at Goodwill Industries before retiring at the age of 75. Rose enjoyed playing cards at many area senior centers, spending most of her time at the W. Warren Senior Center. She celebrated her 100th birthday with friends at each center. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas J. Murtha in 1986. She leaves two nieces Beatrice Carlson of Hoyday, FL, Rose Novak of Ware, and a nephew Harold Roulston and his wife Irene of Springfield. She is also survived by very good friends, and devoted caregivers, Evelyn and John Sullivan, and Joseph Gulluni, Jr. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a niece Evelyn D’Amelia and two nephews David and Robert Roulston. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 17 at 10:00 a.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Springfield. Visitation will be Monday, January 16 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Donations may be made in her memory to W. Warren Senior Center, Main Street, W. Warren, or Baystate VNA & Hospice, 50 Maple St, Springfield."
